DALIKAN ORANG KATHAUT-RABAH
Folktale of a Poor Man

Part (1)

Mung kal hu tha urang lakay kathaut-rabah.
Once upon a time there was a poor man.
Urang nan oh hu sang, hadiip, anu*k jang oh hu.
He did not have a home, a wife and not even a child.
Meyah urang nan khing kamay,
If he marries,
kamay nan dok pagap yau dwa bilan,
That girl may live for two months
Klau bilan mu*tai.
The third month she died.
Bloh urang lakay nan khing kamay pakan wok,
Then that man married another wife,
Jang yuw nan lei.
Still the same happened.


Yuw nan, urang lakay kathaut rau-ri,
Therefore, the poor man worried,
Nhu mung sanu*ng, ""Dray nao duah Po Debita pio*h tangi bal thang-pajan dray yuw ni."
He then thought, "I will go find God Debita to ask why my house is like this?."
Hray nan nhu ganieng tha kabik brah thong ia mu*sin,
That day he carried a bag prepared with rice and sauce
Nao tapak gah ia hray tamu.
Went toward the sunset


Tal sup, nhu weh tamu palay likuw dih di sang tha muk taha.
Till dark, he turned into a village to ask for a place to sleep in an old lady's house.
Muk nan tangi, "Kamun dok pak hlay mai, hu bruk gek?"
The old lady asked, "Nephew where did you come from, what is your purpose?"
Urang lakay mung lac wo*k, "Dahlak dok tah palay.
The man replied, I'm from a far village.
Dahlak nao dwah Po Debita pio*h tangi ka than-pajan dahlak oh droh urang."
I'm going to find God Debita to ask about my house and property, it is not like others."
Muk hmit dom yuw nan,
She heard him say that,
Dalam tian muk ngak on,
In her mind, she wanted to be generous,
Kaywa muk takru paywa panoch tangi Po Debita tha bruk.
Because she liked to send a message to ask Po Debita.
Mlam nan muk bray lathay ka urang nan huak-bang.
That night she gave rice for the man to eat.


Tal dah page urang lakay rami-ramik tabiak nao.
Until the next morning he packed to leave.
Muk mung dom lac, "Urak ni nai likau paywa panoich pio*h tangi Po Debita. 
The old lady then said, "Right now aunty would like to send a message to ask Po Debita."
Nai hu pala dua phun dalim di dwa gah bang jang limu* thun muni.
Auntie have planted two pomegranate plants beside the two gates for five years.
Phun dalim nan prong oh prong,
The pomegranate plants are neither big nor small.
Boh oh muboh,
Has no fruit nor does it grow fruit,
Mutai oh mutai.
Looks dead but not dead
Mu*yah kamun gok Po Debita tangi yom ka nai hai, Lac bal ngak yuw nan?"
If you meet Po Debita ask for me, "Why is it like this?"
Urang lakay nan lac, "Po."
The man said, "Yes."
Bloh nhu likau dray tabiak nao tapak gah ia hray tamu.
Then, he excused himself to leave toward the sunset.

Part (2)

Nao mung page tal sup oh ka gok Po Debita,
Travelled from morning till night, still did not meet Po Debita,
Mulam nan urang lakay kathaut weh tamu palay likuw dih,
That night the poor man turned into a village to ask for a place to sleep,
Min nhu tamu gok thang urang kamay bilau.
But he went inside a new woman's house.

Urang kamay po thang tangi lac: "Ai dok pak hlay mai ni?"
That woman house owner asked:  "Brother, where did you come from?" 
Urang lakay nan lac: "dahlak dok tah lo.  Dahlak mai pak ni pio*h likuw dih tha mulam min tal dah page dahlak nao wo*k. "
Urang kamay po sang tangi wok: "Ai nao tao?" 
The lady house owner asked: "Brother where are you going?
Urang lakay mung lac: "Dahlak nao duah Po Debita pioh tangi pang ka than-pajan
dahlak kho-rabah."
The man said: "I am going to find Po Debita to ask about my house and neighborhood's poor and difficulties."

Urang kamay bilau hmit dom yau nan muk ngak on dalam tian,
When the woman just heard that she felt the desire to do charity,
Min oh ka dom tabiak.
But she did not speak out.
Mulam nan urang kamay po thang bray thang ka urang lakay dih,
That night the woman house owner gave her house to the man to sleep,
Jang bray brah thong mu*sin ka nhu tanu*k huak.
And also gave rice and sauce for him to cook.

Tal dah page,
Until the morning,
Urang lakay likau dray tabiak nao.
The man excused himself to go.
Urang kamay po thang mung dom lac: "Mu*yah ai nao gok Po Debita, nan likuw ai tangi
The woman house owner said: "If you see Po Debita, remember I asked you
yom ka dahlak tha bruk hai nhu!"
for one favor!"
Urang lakay nan lac wok:  "Urak ni ai takru ka dahlak tangi bruk get?"
The man replied: "Now 
Urang kamay nan dom yau ni: "Dahlak ngak bang-angui hu muda,
Min oh hu pathang,
Jang oh hu anu*k.
Dahlak khing hu limu urang lakay bloh,
Lakay haly jang oh dok.
Urak ni likuw ai,
Mu*yah gok Po Debita,
Nan tangi bruk nan ka dahlak dah."
Urang lakay kathaut nan he,

Tabiak nao wok gah ia hray tamu*

Muk mung dom lac, "Urak ni nai likuw paywa panoc pio*h tangi Po Debita. 
The old lady then said, "Right now Aunt would like to send a message to ask Po Debita."
Nai hu pala dua phun dalim di dwa gah bang jang limu* thun muni.
Auntie have planted two pomegranate plants beside the two gates for five years.
Phun dalim nan prong oh prong,
The pomegranate plants are neither big nor small.
Boh oh muboh,
Has no fruit nor does it grow fruit,
Mutai oh mutai.
Looks dead but not dead
Mu*yah kamun gok Po Debita tangi yom ka nai hai, Lac bal ngak yuw nan?"
If you meet Po Debita ask for me, Why is it like this?"
Urang lakay nan lac, "Po."
The man said, "Yes."
Bloh nhu likau dray tabiak nao tapak gah ia hray tamu.
Then, he excused himself to leave toward the sunset.

dok tah lo.  Dahlak mai pak ni pio*h likuw dih tha mulam min tal dah page dahlak nao wo*k."
The man said: "I am from very far away.  I come here to ask for only one night of sleep until tomorrow morning I will go."
Urang kamay po sang tangi wok:  "Ai nao tao?" 
The lady house owner asked:  "Brother, where are you going?"
Urang lakay mung lac:  "Dahlak nao duah Po Debita pioh tangi pang ka than-pajan
dahlak kho-rabah."
The man said: "I am going to find Po Debita to ask about my house and neighborhood's poor and difficulties."

Urang kamei po sang mung dom lac:  "Mu*yah ai nao gok Po Debita, nan likuw ai tangi
The woman house owner said: "If you see Po Debita, remember I asked you
yom ka dahlak sa bruk hai nhu!"

Urang likei nan lac wok:  "Urak ni ai takru ka dahlak tangi bruk get?"
The man replied:  "Now what would you like for me to ask about?"

That lady said like this:  "I work
Min oh hu pathang,
Jang oh hu anu*k.
Dahlak khing hu limu urang lakay bloh,

Part (4)

Urang kamei po sang tangi wok: "Ai nao tao?" 
The lady house owner asked:  "Brother where are you going?"
Urang likei mung lac: "Dahlak nao duah Po Debita pioh tangi ka sang-pajan
dahlak kho-rabah."
Then the man said:  "I am going to find Po Debita to ask about my house and property it is poor."
Urang kamei bilau hmit dom yuw nan mu*k ngak o*n dalam tian,
When the woman just heard that she felt the generosity in her heart,

Remember I asked you for a favor!"
Urang likei nan lac wok:  "Urak ni ai takru ka dahlak tangi bruk get?"
Then the man replied:  Right now what would you like me to ask about?"
Urang kamei nan dom yau ni: "Dahlak ngak bang-angui hu muda,
That lady said like this:  "I make a good living,
Min oh hu pasang,
But have no husband,
Jang oh hu anu*k.
And have no children
Dahlak khing hu limu* urang likei bloh,
I married five husbands already,
Likei halay jang oh dok.
Everyone of them is gone.
Urak ni likuw ai,
Right now I ask you,
Mu*yah gok Po Debita,
If you meet Po Debita,
Nan tangi bruk nan ka dahlak."
Remember to ask about that for me."
Urang likei kathaut nan he,
The poor man agreed,
Tabiak nao wok gah ia hray tamu*.
And left again toward the sunset.

DALIKAN URANG KATHUAT-RABAH
Part (5)

Hrei nan urang likei kathaut nao mu*ng page tal jala prong,
That day the poor man went from morning until late afternoon,
gok sa boh krong ia prong thong dalam. 
Met a river that is big and deep.
Urang nan sanu*ng war lai, oh ngak yuw hlei tapa truh.
He though to himself, what will he do to pass over. 
Dok kru*h sanu*ng, likei nan hmit sap eu lach,
In the middle of thinking, he heard a sound saying,
"O*i ai mu*nus!  Ai nao tao nan?" 
Oi, brother human!  Where are you going brother?
Urang kathaut linhe mong di hang krong boh sa drei tapa prong,
The poor man turned to look in the river there was a big turtle,
mu*ng dom thong tapa nan lach,
then said to the turtle,
"Kau nao duah Po Debita pio*h tangi ka than-pajan kau o dro*h urang."
"I am going to find Po Debita to ask about my house and property that is not like others."
Tapa mu*ng dom wo*k lach,
Then the turtle replied,
"Mu*yah ai ngak o*n thong dahlak sa bruk, dahlak likuw ba ai tapa truh di krong ni."
"If you can help me with one thing, I will bring you over this river."
Urang kathaut tangi tapa ka bruk get. 
The poor man ask about what that turtle want.
Bloh tapa lach wo*k,
The turtle replied,
"Dahlak dok tapah pak ni kajek dua pluh thun bloh oh ka sro*h rup, dok di tapa miet
"I have been here for alsmot 20 years but I have not yet my image is not changed, I am still a turtle.
miet.  Mu*yah ai gok Po Debita, likuw ai tangi yom ka dahlak." 
If you meet Po Debita, please as him for me."
Urang likei kathaut he, lach,
The poor man agreed, and said,
"Hu*.  Mu*yah kau gok Po Debita, kau tangi bruk nan ka hu*." 
"Yes.  If I meet Po Debita, I will ask about that for you."
Bloh tapa padal urang likei dik ngok rong,
Then, the turtle ask the man to climb on his back,
nhu loi truh gah deh hang krong.
He swam over to the other side of the river.
Tapah truh di krong, urang likei nao sa wet jalan,
After crossing the river, the man went part of the way,
boh sa ong taha bilau kang kok,
and saw an old, widow, stubborn man,
chuk ao lah, kak akok bhong. 
Who wore a divided shirt and tied a head wrap on his head.
Ong nan dang di kru*h jalan,  
That old man stood in the middle of the street,
mong tapak nhu tangi lach,
and stared straight to the poor man and asked,
"Ban nan, hu* nao tao?" 
"This man, where are you going?"
Urang likei nan pathau wok, "Pathau ong, dahlak nao duah Po Debita." 
The man reported, "I am going to find Po Debita."
Ong taha lach wok, Hu* duah Po Debita ngak get?  Kau ni nan Po Debita." 
The old man replied, "Why are you looking for Po Debita?  I am Po Debita."
urang likei hoch-kada, dru*c-khoi pathau lach,
The man was shocked, ______
"Pathau Po, anu*k duah Po pio*h likuw pang ka than-pajan anu*k oh droh urang." 
"________, I am looking for Po to hear you tell me about my house and property which is not like others."
Po Debita tangi pang kau ka dom bruk?  
___________________________________?
Kau lang ka hu* dalam klau bruk, oh mu*da hu lang tagok sa bruk pakan tra."
I will grant you three things, no morethan these three things."

 

DALIKAN URANG KATHUAT-RABAH
Part (6)

Urang likei kathaut hmit Po Debita dom ka lang klau bruk min,
nhu war glai.  Nhu takru* tangi Po pak bruk, sa bruk nhu thong klau bruk urang payua.  Nhu sanu*ng nao, sanu*ng mai sa mrok bloh nhu pathau lach,
"Anu*k likuw pang Po klau bruk."

Urang likei kathaut kuk akok pathau,
"Pathau Po Debita, hu sa muk pala dua phum dalim, di dua gah bang jang hu limu* thun bloh.  Dalim nan mu*tai oh mu*tai, mu*boh oh mu*boh, kayua yuw hlei?" 
Po Debita lang lach, "Bruk nan kayua mu*ng la gha dalim hu jo*k mu*h,
yuw nan dalim oh hub oh, oh hu bingu.
Hu* nao sang muk nan, choh pak la gha muk jo*k mu*h. 
Bloh phun dalim nan siam lo, hub oh hu bingu wok."

Urang nan tangi pang ka bruk dua,
"Pathau Po Debita, hu sa urang kamei bang-angui mu*da min oh hu anu*k,
oh hu pasang dok.  Yuw bal nan? 
Po Debita lang wok, "Urang kamei bilau khing likei oh dok, oh hu anu*k,
kayua oh djaup bang-nu*thak. 
Urak ni urang kamei nan khing hu*,
haday ni ngak bang hu ginup-mu*da, hu anu*k tacho."

Urang likei kathaut nan likuw pang ka bruk klau. 
"Pathau Po Debita, hu sa drei tapa,
nhu tapah di dua pluh thun mu*ni min oh ka hu sro*h ju*ng get. 
Kayua bal yuw nan?" 
Po Debita lang lach, "Bruk nan kayua dalam pabah tapa nan hu sa thar mu*tay.
Hu* padal tapa ekmu*tay nan brei ka hu,
bloh nhu sro*h ju*ng inu*-girai. 
Min hu* joi brei ka nhu thau dahlau joi. 
Mu*yah hu* brei ka nhu thau dahlau,
yuw nan nhu ek mu*tay bloh nhu ju*ng inu*-girai,
nhu par tagok.  Hu* chang nhu ba hu*  tapa krong ka,
bloh hu* khan wok ka nhu pang.â€

Lo*h panoch Po Debita sro*h rup lihik. 
Urang likei nan pok tangin kakuh klau bang bloh gilach tui jalan klak wo*k mai sang dalam tian mu*k ngak bui-on.

 

DALIKAN URANG KATHUAT-RABAH
Part (7) END

Urang likei kathaut gilach mai tal hang krong.
The poor man arrived to shore of the river.
Tapa mong boh tangi lach,
The turtle saw him and asked,
"Ai mu*nus hu gok Po Debita pajo ka o?"
Brother human, did you meet Po Debita or not?"
Ai hu tangi ka bruk dahlak lei?"
Did you ask about my case?"
Urang likei nan lach,
The man replied,
"Hu.  Kau gok Po Debita thong tangi bloh, min urak ni hu* ba kau tapa truh di krong ni,
"Yes. I met Po Debita and asked already, but right now you bring me across this river,
bloh kau dom ka hu* pang.
Then I will tell you.
Tapa takru* thau ka bruk drei,
The turtle liked to hear about its case,
nhu padal urang likei dik ngok rong, bloh loi tapa truh.
It told the man to rid on his back, the swam over the river.
Tapa truh krong, urang likei nan dom yuw ni. 
Over the river, the man said like this.
Dalam pabah hu* hu sa thar mu*tay.
Inside your mouth there is a piece of jade.
Hu* ok mu*tay nan ka kau, bloh hu* sro*h ju*ng inu*-girai.
You spit out that jade for me, then you will transform to a dragon.
Tapa hmit yuw nan, nhu muk ngak on-tabon, nhu ok mu*tay ka urang likei kathaut.
The turtle heard that, it was very happy, he spit out the jade for the poor man.

Mu*k hu mu*tay, urang likei kathaut nao tapak sang urang kamei bilau. 
Got the jade, the poor man went straight to the house of the widow lady.
Urang kamei nan tangi urang likei kathaut ka bruk gok Po Debita. 
That lady asked the poor man about meeting Po Debita.
Urang likei nan dom lach,
The man said,
"Po Debita lach ai khing likei oh dok yuh-sak kayua oh djaup bang-nu*thak. 
"Po Debita said you married but that person is not with you because ____
Urak ni Po padal ai khing dahlak ka mu*ng dok yuh-sak thong gaup." 
Now, Po command you to marry me so we can live together prosperously."
Urang kamei pang tui panoch Po Debita,
The lady listen to the words of Po Debita,
dua urang nhu ngak hadiup pasang bang poch bui-klao thong gawk.
The two of them became wife and husband and lived happily together.

Dok thong hadiup hu dua klau hrei,
Have stayed with his wife for two, three days,
urang likei nan nao sang muk taha khan panoch Po Debita dom ka jo*k mu*h doh pak la
gha phun dalim. 
That man went to the old lady's house to inform the words of Po Debita about the mountain of gold underneath the pomegranate tree between the gates.

Muk taha nan pang kadha choh boh pak la nan hu dua jo*k mu*h.
The old lady listened, digged underneath, and there were two mountains of gold.
Muk nan on lo, dalam tian bui-be lo,
The lady was very happy, and in her heart she felt the same,
likuw pa-oh ka urang likei nan sa jok* mu*h.
She asked to give the man one gold mountain.

Hrei haday dua hadiup pasang urang kathaut nan hu anu*k tacho ngak bang ginup-mu*da
yuh-sak thong gawk.
Down the road, the two, wife and husband had children and grand-children and were wealthy
Hu yuw nan kayua urang likei hu tian siam, dok hu phor lo.
Having this was due to having a kind heart.
